Every market we hold

Each market is a permit feed published by its issuing authority, normalized into one schema and checked nightly against a source contract. A market stops publishing when its feed breaks, rather than showing a number we can no longer stand behind.

How this differs from the authority directory

This page lists the markets whose permit records we hold and refresh. The authority directory is a different thing: every US authority that issues building permits, 20,070 of them, from the Census Bureau survey. An authority appearing there does not mean we hold its records — most authorities publish nothing usable, and that gap is the work.
