PERMIT RECORD · AUSTIN, TX

Electrical Leads Austin’s Contractor Filing List

Electrical work appears on 30.3% of Austin permits, while the 10 largest named filers hold a comparatively concentrated share.

IES Residential, Inc. filed 1,538 permits in Austin over the last 12 months, more than any other named contractor in the City of Austin Development Services Department records. Its main trade is electrical, matching the trade that appears most often across the market’s recent permits.

Electrical work shows up on 30.3% of all permits, or 15,058 filings. Plumbing follows on 27.4%, with 13,626 permits carrying plumbing work. Building work appears on 22.6%, and mechanical work on 19.7%. Those shares overlap because a single permit can list several trades, but the pattern still matters: electrical and plumbing are the recurring scopes most likely to put subcontractors and suppliers in the same project orbit.

The overall market eased in the most recent 12-month period. Austin recorded 49,677 permits, down 6.7% from 53,256 in the previous 12 months, a decline of 3,579 permits. That does not change the leading trade pattern, but it gives subs a reason to focus on the contractors that repeatedly appear in the records rather than treating every filing as equal opportunity.

The largest filers by permit count are concentrated in electrical, plumbing and mechanical work. After IES Residential, Inc., Radiant Plumbing & AC filed 1,183 permits, and Victory Plumbing Company filed 707. In Charge Electrical Services, LLC recorded 653, followed by Texas Multifamily Solution, LLC at 628, with mechanical as its main trade. Airco Mechanical filed 584 permits and is listed primarily in electrical work. Stan's Heating, Air, Plumbing, & Electrical followed with 565 mechanical permits.

The rest of the top 10 reinforces the electrical and plumbing concentration: Landmark Electric filed 497 permits, Protex Plumbing & Mechanical, LP filed 464, and AEI Electric LLC filed 454. For a subcontractor, that list does not establish who received the largest projects or generated the most revenue. It shows which named firms repeatedly entered the local permitting record and the trade lanes where their filings were most common.

Austin’s top 10 named contractors represented 16.0% of named permits, compared with 5.9% in New York, NY. The Austin share was higher by 10.1 points. At the same time, the field was not closed: 1,237 newcomers were active during the period, representing 26.5% of 4,676 active named contractors.

These records cover distinct permit numbers in City of Austin Development Services Department data since 2019, through October 13, 2026. Contractor names appear on 91.5% of permits, and the records track filings rather than completed work.
